Dick’s Sporting Goods Becomes Poster Child for Virtue Signaling on 2nd Amendment

In the wake of the Parkland, Florida school shooting, Dick’s Sporting Goods became one of the first corporations to join the left’s anti-gun misinformation campaign.

On February 28, the retailer announced it would be pulling from its shelves all so-called “assault-style rifles,” firearms that are legal to purchase and own. Dick’s also enacted a new policy restricting the sale of all firearms to individuals under 21 years of age. 18-21 year olds are legally allowed to purchase and own rifles and shotguns.

Now, in another craven attempt to appease anti-2nd Amendment leftists, Dick’s is announcing it will destroy all the firearms pulled from its shelves earlier this year.

Again, all of these weapons are lawful to sell and possess.

As the National Rifle Association has pointed out, Dick’s is essentially “punishing law-abiding citizens” in what appears to be a desire to earn points with the left:

Interestingly, Dick’s continues to sell knives, which, according the the FBI are involved in over 1,500 homicides each year. Rifles, on the other hand, including the so-called “assault-style rifles” demonized by Dick’s and the left are involved in less than 300 homicides each year according to the same FBI data.

If Dick’s CEO Ed Stack was really concerned with making an impact that would “solve the problem” as he wrote about the decision and not merely virtue signaling to win points with the left, shouldn’t he be directing his company to remove all knives from its shelves?

Email Dick’s CEO at Edward.Stack@dcsg.com to let him know what you think about companies that enable the left’s anti-gun misinformation campaign and chose virtue signaling over the 2nd Amendment.

Boycott this over priced conglomerate, Traitors to the constitution and 2nd amendment !

    Boycott , along with BOA

  • CumExApostolatus

I emailed the CEO and told him he’s been cowed by those who wish to ruin and control the U.S. I also stated that I don’t believe the inventory will be destroyed. I think the guns will end up in another country. Who destroys inventory purposefully without being compensated?

    Mr. Stack

Thanks for standing up for what you believe in. I believe that every US Citizen has the right to be heard and should be allowed to do what they like within the legal limits of the law and the constitution. I also believe that the constitution gives people those legal rights. I do not believe your decision to remove certain firearms from your store has anything to do with hindering anyone’s constitutional rights. I do believe that it is more of a balancing act you are displaying. Trying to look good for the people that want stricter laws on gun control. There are many laws already on the books… they just need to be followed.
If you believe that this is your attempt to squash gun violence you are mistaken and very lukewarm. Are you just testing the waters to find out the reaction of your customers? Are more anti-gun activists going to shop at your store due to this action or are more law abiding gun owners going to stop shopping at your store? How is that financially sound? Losing hundreds of dollars for a firearm purchase to gain a $50 soccer shoe purchase.
Please, do not stop at just a few guns. If you are going to be a part of the solution, go 100% or go home. How about starting with the knives that kill 5 times more people than the firearms you are removing from the shelves. Next you need to remove all firearms and ammo. Now, on to the bow and arrow. Don’t forget to remove the youth guns as you have now decided to make your decision to raise the buying age to 21. Come to think about it, if I purchase beer and give a sip to a minor I will get arrested. If someone has to be 21 to purchase a youth firearm then give it to their youth, wouldn’t that be hypocritical on your decision to make an impact on gun violence? What percentage of violent gun crimes are committed by 18-21 year olds?
I bet if you looked hard enough you can even find violence with baseball bats. What do you think? Speaking of baseball. My youngest is 8, has a great arm and can hit very well. As of this moment he is using his older brother’s equipment only because he was not sure if he was going to like baseball. As I see it, I give 100% to my employer to get my paycheck. We teach our children to do everything at 100%. I will not be giving that money to someone who doesn’t put in 100%. If you are going to make a stand then do it.
Of the money I spent in your store for my soccer girls and baseball boys and the family camping, I have never spent one dollar on a firearm or ammo from your store. This comment is to justify that your decision does not impact my firearm purchases. That being said, your decision to remove a small percentage of firearms in a feeble attempt to stop gun violence tells me that you are not in it 100% and that does impact my decision where I shop. I cannot justify teaching my children to support someone who does not put in 100%.
As a US military veteran, I served my country honorably to defend the constitution and all that it stands for, 100%.

    The
historical reality of the Second Amendment’s protection of the right to keep
and bear arms is not that it protects the right to shoot deer. It
protects the right to shoot tyrants, and it protects the right to shoot
at them effectively, with the same instruments they would use upon us.

The principal reason the colonists won the American Revolution
is that they possessed weapons equivalent in power and precision to those of
the British government. If the colonists had been limited to crossbows that
    they had registered with the
king’s government in London, while the British troops used gunpowder
when they fought us here, George Washington and Thomas
    Jefferson would
    have been captured and hanged.

When Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence that we are endowed by
our Creator with certain unalienable rights, he was marrying the nation at its
birth to the ancient principles of the natural law that have animated the
Judeo-Christian tradition in the West. Those principles have operated as a
brake on all governments that recognize them by enunciating the concept of
    natural rights.

As we have been created in the image
and likeness of God the Father, we are perfectly free just as He is. Thus, the
natural law teaches that our freedoms are pre-political and come from our
humanity and not from the government. As our humanity is ultimately divine in
    origin, the
government, even by majority vote, cannot morally take natural rights away from
us. A natural right is an area of individual human behavior — like
thought, speech, travel, self-defense, privacy, freedom of association,
ownership and use of property,— immune from government interference and
for the exercise of which we don’t need the government’s permission.

    Most people in
government reject natural rights and personal sovereignty. Most people in
government believe that the exercise of everyone’s rights is subject to the
will of those in the government. Most people in government believe that they
can write any law and regulate any behavior, not subject to the natural law,
not subject to the sovereignty of individuals, not cognizant of history’s
tyrants, but subject only to what they can get away with.

    Did you empower the
government to impair the freedom of us all because of the mania and terror of a
    few?

New Jersey, is the senior judicial analyst at Fox News Channel. He is author of

    Personal Freedom” (Thomas Nelson, 2011).

    George Washington: “A

“Judeo-Christian” is a joke. We need to lose that b.s. line. Jews and Christians have nothing in common. They do not worship the same God nor do they follow the same book. They follow the Talmud and if Christians had any common sense they would follow the bible. The path to hell is paved with good intentions….

  • Thomas Farley

We must use the 2nd for its stated purpose before we lose it. Unfortunately, those that have the comm skills and the established organizations are not leading us in the streets, where we shoul be …….locked and loaded and ready to take back our country. They are too busy reaping profits from what is, in reality, their business. We have no leadership and are doomed to failure and our rights will disappear. Why don’t I lead? I am a soldier and ready to fill out the ranks, like many of you. But I don’t have the skills, the platform or the dollars to lead. These guys do….the NRA does….and so do all the others that ask us for donations. Make them lead us out before it becomes totally futile. At least now, if we can’t keep our rights, we can make the liberals suffer the pains of hell as they take them. Don’t go down without taking them with you.
